Warning, this week I have picked some highly seductive Chanson music for you to enjoy. I have a fondness for music with French men singing seductively, I have no idea what these old wrinkly guys are saying but they sound great, no one does sexy, sleazy and sophisticated quite like the French and here are 4 tracks that are particular favourites of mine. First up Alain Delon, probably far more known as an actor (Le Samourai is one of the coolest movies ever), I’ve also been told he’s a bit of an idiot but who cares when he can make music like this, also check out the brilliant accompanying video with Alain chatting up a little girl, chilling next to a tree, creating a stunning portrait of a ladies face in the sand and frolicking with a dog by the sea.
Next up another actor, this time Jean-Pierre Castaldi who released a couple singles in the 70s under the name Paul Martin for some reason. The track ‘Le troublant témoignage de Paul Martin’ which translates to ‘The disturbing testimony of Paul Martin’ sounds like whatever he may be talking about might not actually be that sexy, but that doesn’t matter as I don’t understand what he is saying anyway. For my third choice I’ve gone for possibly my favourite sexy Chanson piece of music; ‘Bambou’ by Alain Chamfort. Here is Alain on German TV being harassed by a lady dancing round him throughout his performance because she can’t get enough of his sophistication while being watched by a bunch of confused looking German kids all scoffing their face.
Finally I’ve gone for the piece ‘La Gitane’ by the San Sebastian Strings, the reason I’ve gone for this is because there are actually 2 versions, one in French (although performed by Italians) and the other English (which you can listen to here) and it’s mainly to highlight the point that even though there are 2 versions of the same song the French version just sounds so much sleazier than the English version which sounds more like an old cowboy telling a nice little story. If you like any of these tracks I made a French mix a few weeks back which actually include all 4 of these songs which you can listen to here. Mange tout!
